I offer private instruction in piano and harp to students of all ages. Research indicates that learning an instrument at a young age enhances brain development and reasoning skills. Studying music also develops problem-solving skills and provides social opportunities, and, unlike sports and many other activities, is a skill that is useful for years to come. It is never too late to fulfill a lifelong desire to learn an instrument! I love to work with people, and consider teaching a great privilege.
I began teaching during high school, and have received formal training in both harp and piano pedagogy in college. For five years, I have enjoyed working with the summer music camps at Bob Jones University, where I teach music classes, coach ensembles, and offer private lessons. I am also an adjunct faculty member at Pinner Studios in Greenville. I encourage my students to enjoy performing from the very beginning and I provide opportunities to play in recitals as well as volunteering in nursing homes and their churches. While I emphasize the classical tradition with a music theory foundation, I also encourage students to explore sacred and folk genres and I seek to work individually with each student so that music is motivating and enjoyable. Also, I introduce interested students to arranging, composing and improvisation skills. Please contact me for scheduling and pricing information. I would encourage prospective harp students to contact me before renting or purchasing a harp. I would love to assist you in the process of evaluating the quality and structural stability of the instrument, so that you end up with the harp that best suits your needs. |
